Friends and family of Blade Ward, Mesquite teenager suffering from stage 4 Lymphoma, are gathering the forces to put on the first ever telethon-like fund raiser for this exceptionally talented young man and his family. Blade, lead guitarist for the local band Von Swayzi, is the 2nd of 5 children in the Ward family. Expenses are mounting, so with the donation of the showroom at the Casablanca Hotel, the event is planned for Saturday April 4, 2009 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. Venezia Entertainment is gathering acts, bands, and performers, many coming from Las Vegas, all of whom are donating their time to the 6 hour marathon of entertainment. A ticket at the door gains you all day access. There will be a silent auction, telephones ready to accept call in donations, interviews with local celebrities, sports competitions, and more. The event is hosted by Venezia Entertainment, Falcon Ridge Realty, and the Mesquite Cancer Society, and would not be possible without the tremendous amount of other people who are lovingly donating their time. The Mesquite Business Owners have their own special way of saying “so-long summer, hello shopping snowbirds!” The event last year was such a hit, they are bringing it back and making it bigger. The city closes off Yucca Street between Mesquite Blvd, and 1st st S., literally turning it into a summer block party. This year, they are adding a classic car show, rally and poker run. Come on out and enjoy the food, fun and entertainment brought to you by US! Kicking things off is the newest, coolest hottest rock band to move to Mesquite VON SWAYZE ! Followed by Scott Grove of Groovy Productions playing all of your favorite tunes from the 60s. The big show is at 530pm and 730pm with singer Christy Copeland, the Mesquite Downtown Dancers, and a custom video of the classic stars and cars of the 60’s projected on a 14×10 jumbo screen. From June 17th to July 20th, 2008, ORIENTARHYTHM, a unique martial arts/dance team from Japan wowed the huge audiences with their sharp execution of their never before seen act. And..A CAPELLA UNPLUGGED was there for the same 5 weeks. Making music with nothing but their mouths, this talented group of guys appear frequently at events all over the northeast.
